From Penneshaw to Stokes Bay allow an hour and a quarter. We advise that you drive from Penneshaw via Kingscote onto Parndana then north to Stokes Bay. If you don't need to go into Kingscote - turn left at the Airport sign approx. 8kms before Kingscote and take that road past the Airport which links up with the road to Parndana - this saves you quite a few kilometres.

The road from Parndana to Stokes Bay is a gravel road. Although in quite good condition, due care should be taken at all times and definitely do not speed if you are not used to these conditions. We would suggest a cautious approach, but at the same time, sit back and take in all the great views, especially if you are not in a hurry.

Wind your window down at times and listen for the birds and always keep an eye out for koalas on the roadsides and up trees. It won't be hard to find kangaroos and wallabies. Black swans are common around American River - keep your camera handy!

An alternative and more direct route is to travel along the Playford Highway and take the Bark Hut Road through to Stokes Bay Hall T Junction, turn right for 4.3 km to Lathami Lodge entrance.
